52 Find a task or a name🔗ℹ

Use the Guide to learn a workflow. Use this map when you already know the task and need the relevant API. The links below lead to definitions, not to new copies of their contracts.

52.1 Ordinary Scenes🔗ℹ

Task

Start with

Build the timeline

make-scene

Put an object on screen immediately

scene-add

Hold the current state

scene-wait

Append one or more changes

scene-play

Ask for a state at a time

scene-sample

Move a named object

move-to

Share placement among children

group

Give a request a local start

timed

Introduce a faded object

fade-in

Keep an object but make it invisible

fade-to

Fade an object away and remove it

fade-out

For the pictures and timing comparison, see Build a small scene and Control time and visibility. Use Visuals for Visual protocols and kinds; custom protocol implementation is not needed to use a built-in circle or group.

52.2 Graphs and mathematical content🔗ℹ

function-graph turns a numerical function into a sampled path. parametric-curve samples two coordinates from a parameter. data-plot uses observations in their declared order. create reveals stored path geometry. These are distinct tasks. See Draw a graph for the simple case.

An ordinary formula Visual displays typeset mathematics. A mathematical presentation plan carries an authored explanation with its own steps. The slide math adapter wraps that plan; it does not infer algebra from a picture. See A mathematical explanation has its own plan before choosing a formula-transition API.

52.3 Slides and continuity🔗ℹ

Task

Start with

Make a still slide

slide

Keep the slide visible for an interval

hold-slide

Add builds inside the slide

build-slide

Arrange clips and bridges

storyboard

Put native animation in a figure

scene-content

Advance that figure's local clock

play-content

Freeze one domain checkpoint

content-state

Name children for recursive matching

semantic-group

Inspect the prepared match

storyboard-match-report

Get a still picture

slide->pict

Get a native Scene

slide->scene

Full slide contracts are at Slides. Gallery/probe flags are at Slide command-line tools. For 3D content, use the separate task map at 3D reference map. For a wrong result, use Find the cause of a wrong result.
